Burnham Company of Archers welcomes all ages and abilities. From first-time beginners to competitive archers — our dedicated field is open year-round.
Originally founded in the early 1970s as "King Alfred's Bowmen", we moved to our current home at the Burnham Association of Sports Clubs in 1976/77, becoming the Burnham Company of Archers (BCOA).
We are fortunate to have our own dedicated outdoor field, enabling shooting throughout the entire year, rain or shine. Our friendly and welcoming community embraces everyone — from curious beginners to competitive county-level archers.

Our dedicated field at Burnham Association of Sports Clubs means you can shoot every single day of the year, whatever the season.
All ages, all abilities, all backgrounds. We foster a friendly, inclusive atmosphere where camaraderie is just as important as accuracy.
No experience needed. Our qualified coaches guide new archers step-by-step through the fundamentals in structured, enjoyable beginner courses.
Shoot recurve, compound, longbow, or barebow. We support all major archery disciplines and styles at our facilities.
Take part in local, county, and regional competitions. We compete within the Grand Western Archery Society (GWAS) and Somerset County.
Weekly club sessions, postal leagues, and special events throughout the year keep things fresh and give you plenty of opportunities to shoot.
"I joined as a complete beginner knowing nothing about archery. Within a few sessions I was hooked, and the coaching has been superb. Genuinely the friendliest club I've ever been part of."
"The field is excellent and available all year — even through winter. It's great to have a local club of this quality right here in Burnham-on-Sea. Highly recommend to anyone curious about archery."
"My two kids have both joined and absolutely love it. The coaches are patient and brilliant with young archers. Such a wonderful sport to learn as a family — BCOA makes it so accessible."
Your archery journey starts here. From beginner courses to full membership — we'll guide you every step of the way.
Our beginner courses are designed for anyone who has never shot a bow before. All equipment is provided — just bring yourself.
Contact us via the website to reserve your spot on our next beginner course. Courses run regularly throughout the year with limited spaces for a quality experience.
Meet your qualified coach, learn bow safety, correct stance, and the basics of drawing and releasing. You'll shoot your first arrows by the end of day one.
Develop consistency, improve your form, learn about equipment, and get comfortable on the range. Coaches provide tailored feedback to every student.
Upon completing the course you're invited to become a full club member and join our community of archers at the field whenever you like.
Fees do not include governing body memberships (GWAS, SCAA or Archery GB), which are payable separately. Members provide their own target faces and pins. Contact hello@burnhamcompanyofarchers.co.uk for full details.
BCOA supports a range of archery disciplines. Not sure which suits you? Our coaches will help you find your fit.
The most popular Olympic style. A classic recurve bow with or without sights is a great choice for beginners and seasoned competitors alike.
Using a pulley system for a mechanical advantage, compound bows offer incredible accuracy and are popular in field and target competitions.
Traditional styles that challenge the archer to rely purely on instinct and feel. A deeply satisfying, skill-intensive way to shoot.
